Best Board Games for Adult couples

Are you celebrating an occasion? Valentine's Day? Christmas? A birthday or anniversary? Whatever it is, there's a board game to make the occasion memorable. Forego the gift of typical roses and chocolates, grab an adult board game, and get a little risque with your partner(s). Or, perhaps you're looking for a way to make your date nights more interesting. Movies, restaurants, picnics, walks in the park--they're run of the mill dates. Get to know your partner a little better, however fresh (or not) the relationship, with any of the fun, silly or provocative board games for adults on our list.

Alternatively, forget the cheese and have some laughs with friends by making them act out, draw or explain the ridiculous, hilarious and sometimes straight-up obscene phrases only suitable for adult ears. Most of the board games on this list are 18+ or NSFW (so seriously, don't take them to work to play with your coworkers). Whatever you choose, remember to leave your sensibilities and inhibitions at the door and have some fun!

Now onto our list of top board games for adult couples!

Our Rating:

Everyone knows how to play Twister, right? Spin the spinner, put the matching foot or hand on the coloured dot, and keep going until the loser falls over. Is it the most enjoyable, most hilarious, most replayable game of all time? No. BUT. For couples or couples + adventurous friends, this game is a good addition to your date night, Valentine's Day, anniversary, or any night you want to add a little spice and fun. Forego the clothes and you're all set.

Our Rating:

This is definitely not a game for those easily embarrassed or offended. But, if you have a twisted sense of humour or are looking for some good laughs, Draw What?! is a good bet. It's a quick and easy game for teams, where players act or draw the clue from a card. To make it easy, the categories are colour-matched to the board spaces, and if your team guesses correctly before the timer runs out, you get to go again. First to reach the end wins! See? Simple! So grab your friends and get ready for some hilariously offensive fun. If you are looking for something a little more risque you will want the You're Going To Hell Expansion. Both are great options for adult board games for groups of people.

Our Rating:

For Charades lovers, this is your next step.. Clues range from easy (X) or difficult (XXX) and you're allotted a different amount of time depending on the difficulty of your clue. Many (most) are lewd, inappropriate for children, obscene or offensive, so know your audience! The first team to 10 points wins. There are 100 cards, each with six phrases, so you have a lot of options and replayability is pretty high. It's a good party game for adults who like to have a little fun and be a lot inappropriate.

Code Names is one of our top games to play when we get together. It's a tough game and we often have to bring out the timer as we can get decision-stricken. It plays like every version of Codenames, but with lewd or suggestive cards. Cards are set in a 5x5 grid, and two spymasters give one-word clues to their teammates to help them guess the correct cards. One wrong guess and your turn is over. Hit the assassin and you lose the game. Codenames: Deep Undercover plays with 4-8 people and is a quick 15 minutes. If it's just you and your partner, check out Codenames: Duet for a two player-only game.

In five seconds, you have to name three things that answer the question. Get flustered or answer incorrectly, and you miss out on the chance to score points. Everyone is tasked with the same card until one answers three correctly (no repeating other answers!) in five seconds, and the winner gets a point. If nobody guesses, the card drawer gets the point. Cards range from phobias to wet things to tongue functions, so you can see how the game gets lewd and crude quickly. Players get to set how many points crowns the winner, so it's as quick or long as you make it.

Telestrations is a surprising amount of fun, and the After Dark edition produces the same amount of fun and laughs--but this time, it's just for adults. Just like the game Telephone but on paper, every player has a small pad, like a flip chart. A card dictates what you draw, and the pad is passed to the next person who writes what they think the drawing is. The pad is passed to each player, alternating drawings and written guesses, until it comes back to the original drawer. Strong language, innuendos and risque scenarios abound, and things get progressively worse as you attempt to draw, write and interpret the original phrase. It's a good game for a lot of laughs, and plays with 4-8 people over 20 minutes.

7. Obscenity: A Shameless Adult Party Game

Our Rating:

Think Cards Against Humanity meets Time's Up, and you've got Obscenity. Teams act out or describe as many phrases as possible on the cards in the allotted time, wracking up points to win. It's certainly not a game for those easily offended, or under 18, and it's highly amusing when played with friends or partners who don't know what phrases and words mean. Obscenity is good for a lot of laughs and can be played as a drinking game, with 4-20 people.

Pick a truth, and confess your deepest secrets. Pick a dare, and perform the stunt. It's a quick and easy game to play to spice up your night or relationship, and small enough it can be hidden away in a drawer for later. Work your way through the entire stack or just grab a couple to make your night more interesting.

9. xxxopoly

Our Rating:

When we were brainstorming games for this list, a couple of our Hexagamers jokingly suggested strip Monopoly. Joke's on them--there's such a thing as xxxopoloy, which is just like Monopoly, but with adult-oriented cards, themes and challenges for you and your partner to act out. It's designed to be played with two people but if you are adventurous and have a couple of extra tokens, you can play with more than two. Games tend not to last long and can help strengthen your relationship, sense of adventure and knowledge about your partner(s). Or, they can serve as a quick appetizer for the start of your night!

Our Rating:

For those looking for a different way to strengthen their relationship andconnect, Couples Retreat is a great choice. The Gottman Institute is run by married psychologists who have dedicated their lives and careers to researching couples and relationships. Their board game, Couples Retreat, finds ways to balance intimacy, fun and conversation so you can both feel fulfilled and better connected. This is a great game and for all couples, whether they've been together for four years or 40.

Conclusion

Whatever your appetite tonight--silly, sweet, saucy, naughty, fun or provoking--there's a good adult board game on this list for you. It doesn't matter if you're with friends, a love interest or a long-term partner, board games (and many on this list) will provide some surprises and insight. Think you know everything to know about your fellow board gamers? Think again! Strengthen your relationships, have some laughs, celebrate a holiday and take some time just for you by playing any of these board games for adults and couples tonight.
