The dead are amongst us! Zombies are everywhere! Grab a shotgun, some zombie repellent, or perhaps make a baseball team consisting only of Zombies. Compete with other members of the living to achieve a goal and survive the Zombies.

Intro/First Impressions

The game Zombie Fluxx is always changing, hence the name. No two games are the same nor do they have the same rules. The rules won’t even be the same for the whole game, maybe not even till your next turn. It is the classic game of fluxx with the addition of zombies. There are creeper cards that have the zombies or multiple zombies. The basic rules are the same as classic Fluxx. There are many different types of cards, such as goal, rule, action, keeper and creeper. The lay out is done really well that it is easy to visually tell the difference. Other then the creeper Zombies, the artwork on the cards is very minimal.

Thoughts

For Zombie Fluxx, the basic rules remain constant, draw a card and play a card. The neat thing is that as you play the game you can add rule cards that alter the game. Something like a one card hand limit, and that you must groan like a zombie when you pick one up. Also your objective changes as well, there are many goal cards so do not expect the goal to stay the same for long. In general, in order to win you need to collect keeper cards that are associated with the current goal card in play. You may also need zombies, a certain number of zombies or you may need to have no zombies.

It is very fast to teach, maybe one of the fastest games to teach that I have played. This is great when you have individuals at a game night and need to slowly introduce them to strategic games. With there being so many different versions, if you like Fluxx there will probably be a version that interests you. Each of these versions has a slightly different element involved in the game. There are many versions ranging from adventure time to monty python.

With the game constantly changing, it can be a good thing or a bad thing. Good in that its always a new game, so replayability is high. Bad in that it is hard to have a strategy in Zombie Fluxx. You will have a strategy picked out and then a new rule comes up that changes it or the goal to win changes. You may even have to play these against yourself. You may also be holding onto a card that would have an opponent win, then someone changes a rule so you have to play it. This can get really frustrating. You may need to collect 9 zombies and you only need one more. Then suddenly another player changes the goal card and now you have to have zero zombies to win. There is a lot of luck involved. It depends strictly on what cards you draw, in what order and what rules are currently in play.

Conclusion

This game is fun in a mindless sort of way. I personally prefer more strategy to be involved and less luck though. Zombie fluxx is a good starter game for a board game night. You may play a few rounds but not likely more then that.
